  • Don’t wait for wealth — better health needs basic tools: Charles Kenny of CGD on the Science and Development Network writes about recent improvements in delivering cost-effective health solutions to rural and impoverished communities. He also emphasizes the need for broader community education and access to increase demand. (See also “Soap Operas with a Social Message” below.)

Fixes in the New York Times

  • Innovations in Light: Tina Rosenberg’s latest Fixes column explores challenges of—and promising solutions for—bringing light to the poorest, most remote communities.
  • Soap Operas with a Social Message: Sarika Bansal on the placement of social/behavioral messages in popular culture venues such as soap operas from the demand side. A lot of what we focus on is supply side, but the sweet spot is of course where they meet.
